Resource Guarding: Symptoms & Solutions: The Give & Take Game Changes the Brain

Why are we seeing so many dogs with resource guarding these days? Recognizing, diagnosing and rehabbing possessive behaviors in puppies before adulthood onset of resource guarding may reduce these numbers. 

We will discuss:

• prosocial possession behaviors in dogs versus anti-social resource guarding and inappropriate possessive behaviors
• countering adult resource guarding by recognizing puppy possessive behaviors indicating a potential for adult resource guarding issues
• recognizing practiced resource guarding in adult dogs before we encounter a serious problem
• creating an environment for trust and success: structure matters 
• utilizing canine cognitive game therapy to reprogram resource guarding instincts into prosocial choices and behaviors
